Amazon Unveils AI-Powered Audio Shopping Feature for Product Research

Amazon has introduced a new AI-powered audio feature called 'Hear the highlights' that transforms product research into short-form listening experiences on select product pages. The feature uses large language models to analyze product details, customer reviews, and web information, presenting it in a conversational format to help shoppers make informed decisions quickly. Initially available to a subset of U.S. customers, Amazon plans to expand the feature to more products and users in the coming months.

Amazon is continuing its aggressive push into AI-enhanced shopping experiences with the launch of a new audio feature called 'Hear the highlights' on its mobile shopping app.

The generative AI-powered feature, which Amazon refers to as 'AI shopping experts,' analyzes product details, customer reviews, and information from across the web to create short-form audio summaries that shoppers can listen to while browsing product pages. Users can access these audio clips by tapping a 'Hear the highlights' button below the product image in the Amazon app.

'The feature makes product research fun and convenient—it's like having helpful friends discuss potential purchases to make your shopping easier, even if you're multitasking or on the go,' said Rajiv Mehta, Vice President of Search and Conversational Shopping at Amazon, in a blog post announcing the release.

The technology behind the feature uses large language models to generate scripts from Amazon's product catalog and customer reviews, then translates this content into short-form audio clips. Amazon is initially testing this on products that typically require consideration before purchase, with plans to expand to more product pages and customers in the coming months.

This audio feature joins Amazon's growing suite of AI-powered shopping tools, including Rufus (a generative AI shopping assistant launched in February 2024), review highlights that summarize common themes across product reviews, and 'Interests,' which continuously monitors and recommends new products aligned with users' preferences.

The introduction of 'Hear the highlights' represents Amazon's broader strategy to integrate AI more deeply across its ecosystem, following recent enhancements to Alexa+ with generative AI capabilities in February 2025. As major tech companies continue to leverage artificial intelligence to transform online shopping, Amazon is positioning itself at the forefront of AI-powered retail experiences.
