While Xiaomi continues rolling out HyperOS 2 updates globally, the China-based tech giant is already making significant progress on its successor. According to multiple industry sources, HyperOS 3 is under active development and will be based on Android 16, with a planned release in the third quarter of 2025.
The timing aligns strategically with Google's accelerated Android 16 release schedule, which is expected in June 2025—earlier than Android 15's October 2024 launch. Xiaomi typically follows Google's stable releases with its own updates within 2-3 weeks for flagship devices.
HyperOS 3 is expected to debut alongside the Xiaomi 16 series, continuing the company's tradition of launching new software with new hardware. The update will bring substantial improvements across several key areas, with artificial intelligence features taking center stage.
According to early development information, HyperOS 3 will introduce enhanced AI tools for photography, productivity, and everyday tasks. The system will incorporate the WritingTools API for AI-powered text generation, improved camera capabilities with a new Camera Interface 6.0, and Live Updates for real-time information without opening apps.
Performance enhancements are another focus area, with accelerated app opening and closing times, better memory optimization, and improved battery management. The user interface will receive a complete redesign with smoother animations, themed icons for better visual consistency, and a revamped notification system.
Connectivity between Xiaomi devices will also see significant upgrades, with features like Auracast for streaming audio to multiple devices and improved cross-device integration within the Xiaomi ecosystem.
While Xiaomi hasn't officially confirmed the complete list of eligible devices, approximately 75 models across the Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO brands are expected to receive the update. Flagship devices like the Xiaomi 15 and 14 series will likely be first in line, with mid-range phones following in subsequent months. Notably, devices older than the Xiaomi 12 series and Redmi Note 12 series may not receive the update due to hardware limitations.
