Bogotá's economic development agencies have joined over 15,000 global tech leaders at Web Summit Vancouver 2025, showcasing the Colombian capital's growing prominence in the Latin American technology landscape.
The delegation, led by Carolina Tamayo Hackmayer, Senior Investment Officer at Invest in Bogota, is highlighting the city's ambitious Science, Technology and Innovation Campus project. This strategic initiative aims to consolidate a high-impact environment where companies, universities, and research centers can collaborate to drive digital transformation and develop innovative solutions with global reach.
The Science, Technology and Innovation Campus represents a significant investment in Bogotá's tech future. According to development plans, the project will repurpose 247 hectares to create spaces for 5G laboratories, innovation projects, and collaborative scenarios that foster technological advancement.
Bogotá brings impressive credentials to the global tech stage. The city accounts for more than 63% of employment, 60% of revenues, and 47% of companies in Colombia's IT sector. With three of Latin America's top 20 universities and the region's highest bilingual population (over 2.1 million people), Bogotá offers a rich talent pool, with 31% of Colombia's STEM graduates coming from the capital.
The city's participation in Web Summit Vancouver, which has attracted attendees from 117 countries, comes at a pivotal moment for the global tech industry. The conference, running from May 27-30 at the Vancouver Convention Centre, features discussions on artificial intelligence, sustainability, and digital transformation – all areas where Bogotá seeks to establish leadership.
"This assistance is part of the agency's commitment to position Bogota and Colombia as strategic destinations for investment in technology and knowledge-based services," stated representatives from Invest in Bogota, a public-private partnership between the Bogota Chamber of Commerce and the Capital District focused on facilitating international investment and articulating the high-impact entrepreneurship ecosystem.
