Google has launched Flow, a groundbreaking AI filmmaking tool that merges its most advanced AI technologies to transform how creators approach video production.
Announced at Google I/O 2025, Flow represents a significant leap in generative AI for video creation. The tool is powered by a trio of Google's AI models — Veo for video generation, Imagen for image generation, and Gemini for text and prompting. Veo 3, Google's newest video generation model, not only improves on the quality of its predecessor but introduces native audio generation capabilities, including environmental sounds and character dialogue.
Flow is designed to help storytellers explore ideas without limitations. It's custom-built for Veo, offering exceptional prompt adherence and cinematic outputs that excel at physics and realism. Behind the scenes, Gemini models make prompting intuitive, allowing users to describe their vision in everyday language. While tools like Runway and Pika Labs offer short-form generative video, Flow stands out with its deep integration of Google's language and vision models, letting users craft entire scenes with characters, dialogue, and camera movement in one place. Users can describe a scene in natural language, and Flow will generate a cinematic clip using Veo's physics-accurate rendering engine.
The tool offers impressive flexibility — users can bring their own assets to create characters or use Flow to generate ingredients with Imagen's text-to-image capabilities. Once a subject or scene is created, those same elements can be integrated into different clips and scenes with consistency. Flow includes advanced features like Camera Controls for mastering shots with direct control over camera motion and angles; Scenebuilder for seamlessly editing and extending existing shots; Asset Management for organizing ingredients and prompts; and Flow TV, which showcases clips generated with Veo, revealing the exact prompts used.
Flow is available now to subscribers of Google AI plans. Google AI Pro ($20/month) offers 100 film generations per month with access to Veo 2, while Google AI Ultra ($249.99/month) provides the highest usage limits and early access to Veo 3 with native audio generation. Google AI Pro is offering the first month free, and Google AI Ultra is half off for the first three months. Initially available to users in the United States, Google plans to expand Flow to more countries soon.
As AI filmmaking tools continue to evolve, Flow could fundamentally change how directors visualize scenes and test storytelling concepts without the need for physical production, potentially marking the beginning of a new era where generative AI becomes an integral part of the creative filmmaking process.
