Google Supercharges Search with Gemini 2.5 AI Integration

Google has taken a significant step in its AI strategy by integrating Gemini 2.5, its most intelligent model yet, into Search functionality across the United States.

The company announced that Gemini 2.5 is now powering both AI Mode and AI Overviews in Search, bringing enhanced reasoning capabilities to handle more complex queries. This integration represents Google's most ambitious effort to transform how users interact with its core search product.

According to Google's internal data, AI Overviews is driving over 10% increased usage of Google in major markets like the U.S. and India for the types of queries that display AI-generated results. This growth trend increases over time as users discover the expanded capabilities. AI Overviews now reaches approximately 1.5 billion monthly users across more than 200 countries and territories, making Google Search the most widely used generative AI product globally.

The Gemini 2.5 model family introduces significant security improvements, with Google reporting substantially increased protection against indirect prompt injection attacks during tool use. The company describes Gemini 2.5 as its most secure model family to date.

In addition to Search integration, Gemini 2.5 Flash is now available to everyone in the Gemini app. The updated version will become generally available in Google AI Studio for developers and in Vertex AI for enterprises in early June, followed by the more powerful 2.5 Pro version.

The Pro version will be enhanced with Deep Think, an experimental reasoning mode specifically designed for complex mathematics and coding challenges. This feature enables the model to consider multiple hypotheses before responding, significantly improving performance on difficult benchmarks like the 2025 USAMO math competition and LiveCodeBench for competitive programming.

Google's continued investment in AI capabilities reflects its strategy to maintain search dominance while expanding into new AI-powered experiences across its ecosystem of products and services.
