Global AI Leaders to Convene at CSIS Policy Summit

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape global economies and governance structures, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is preparing to host a significant gathering of AI policy experts and leaders at its Washington, DC headquarters.

The "International AI Policy: Outlook for 2025" conference, scheduled for December 9, 2024, comes at a pivotal moment when international organizations are actively developing frameworks to address both the opportunities and risks presented by advanced AI systems.

The full-day event will convene leading policymakers, industry experts, and thought leaders to explore the latest international efforts in AI governance. Distinguished speakers include Ambassador Shigeo Yamada of Japan, Ambassador Laurent Bili of France, and Sara Cohen, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Canada, highlighting the global nature of AI policy development.

Over the past year, key international organizations including the G7, OECD, and Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) have shaped the global AI governance conversation, focusing on foundational principles, critical risks, and responsible AI development. The conference will build on these efforts by examining how G7 countries and corporations plan to implement AI governance frameworks while addressing emerging challenges such as the growing energy demands of AI technologies.

Panel discussions will cover several critical areas: global governance initiatives like the G7's Hiroshima AI Process, private sector adoption of AI policy frameworks, infrastructure advancements to meet AI power demands, and the anticipated direction of AI policy under the Trump Administration. Speakers will also spotlight upcoming priorities for AI governance during the 2025 Canadian G7 Presidency, which will be hosted in Kananaskis, Alberta, and the forthcoming AI Action Summit led by France in February 2025.

The event represents an important opportunity for stakeholders to engage with the evolving landscape of AI governance as nations work to balance innovation with responsible development. Made possible through support from NTT Corporation, the conference will provide valuable insights into how international cooperation on AI policy is likely to develop throughout 2025.
