According to Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information Tan Kiat How, approximately one-third of all proposals under this initiative are focused on materials science research, highlighting the field's importance to Singapore's innovation ecosystem.

A*STAR (Agency for Science, Technology and Research) and its research institutes, including the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), are collaborating with local universities to develop sophisticated AI models that can accurately predict chemical behaviors and material properties. These models are capable of simulating countless molecular interactions in minutes rather than the months or years required by traditional laboratory methods.
