Google has officially made Gemini 2.5 Pro available to developers and enterprises, following the earlier release of Gemini 2.5 Flash. The Pro version introduces a significant advancement in AI reasoning capabilities.
The standout feature of Gemini 2.5 Pro is Deep Think, an experimental enhanced reasoning mode that enables the model to consider multiple hypotheses before responding to queries. According to Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, Deep Think uses "the latest cutting-edge research in thinking and reasoning, including parallel thinking techniques." This capability has shown impressive results on challenging benchmarks, including the 2025 USA Mathematical Olympiad and LiveCodeBench, a difficult benchmark for competition-level coding.
Security has been a major focus in this release. Google has significantly increased Gemini's protection rate against indirect prompt injection attacks during tool use through a new security approach. This involves automated red teaming (ART) and model hardening, where the model is fine-tuned on datasets of realistic scenarios to identify and ignore malicious embedded instructions. These improvements make Gemini 2.5 Google's most secure model family to date.
Another key addition is the integration of Project Mariner's computer use capabilities into the Gemini API and Vertex AI. Project Mariner allows Gemini-powered AI agents to navigate web browsers to complete tasks for users. Companies including Automation Anywhere, UiPath, Browserbase, Autotab, The Interaction Company, and Cartwheel are already exploring its potential, with Google planning a broader rollout for developers this summer.
The release also introduces thought summaries in the Gemini API and Vertex AI, providing more transparency by organizing the model's raw thoughts into a clear format with headers, key details, and information about model actions.
Gemini 2.5 Flash is currently available for preview in Google AI Studio for developers, in Vertex AI for enterprises, and in the Gemini app for general users, with general availability expected in early June. Gemini 2.5 Pro will follow shortly after, with Deep Think initially limited to trusted testers while Google conducts additional safety evaluations.
