Google has rolled out a major enhancement to its Gemini Live voice assistant, connecting it with essential Google services and select third-party applications to create a more versatile AI companion for multitasking users.
The integration, which began rolling out in June 2025, allows Gemini Live to interact with Google Maps, Calendar, Keep, Tasks, and popular music streaming services including Spotify and YouTube Music. This expansion represents a significant advancement in AI assistants' functionality, moving beyond single-app capabilities to create a truly useful digital ecosystem.
What makes this update particularly powerful is Gemini's new contextual awareness across applications. Users can now have natural conversations with Gemini Live while it intelligently orchestrates actions across multiple services. For example, discussing dinner plans with friends can instantly create a Calendar event, while asking about pizza restaurants will pull up relevant information from Google Maps without requiring separate commands or app switching.
The integration works with both voice and camera inputs. Users can point their phone at a concert poster, and Gemini can extract the details to create a calendar event. Similarly, showing Gemini a paper shopping list allows it to transfer those items directly to Google Keep.
Spotify became the second third-party app to integrate with Gemini in mid-2025, following WhatsApp. This allows premium subscribers to control their music through natural language requests to Gemini. When users have multiple media apps connected, they can specify which service to use or Gemini will default to the most recently used option.
This cross-application functionality transforms Gemini Live from a general conversationalist into a comprehensive digital assistant capable of managing complex workflows through natural interaction. Google has indicated that more ecosystem connections are planned, suggesting this is just the beginning of Gemini's evolution into a more capable and context-aware AI companion.
