Google has officially completed the rollout of Gemini Live's camera and screen sharing capabilities to all iOS users, marking a significant expansion of the AI assistant's visual interaction features beyond Android devices.
First announced at Google I/O 2025 in May, the feature began a gradual rollout to iPhone and iPad users over the past few weeks. As of June 13, the functionality is now widely available to all Gemini app users on iOS, regardless of whether they subscribe to Google's premium AI plans or use the free version.
The new capabilities transform how iPhone users can interact with Google's AI assistant. By tapping the waveform icon in the Gemini app, users can now access two new buttons in the Live interface: one for camera sharing and another for screen sharing. The camera feature opens a viewfinder that allows users to point their phone at objects, scenes, or text in the real world and discuss what they're seeing with Gemini in real-time. Meanwhile, screen sharing lets users browse websites, compare products, or review documents while getting AI-powered insights and assistance.
This visual expansion is part of Google's broader strategy to make Gemini more deeply integrated with daily activities. In the coming weeks, Google will roll out integration with Maps, Calendar, Tasks, and Keep, allowing users to perform actions directly from Gemini Live conversations. For example, users will be able to discuss dinner plans and have Gemini instantly create a calendar event, or ask about nearby restaurants and get real-time information from Google Maps.
The feature leverages Google DeepMind's Project Astra technology, which enables Gemini to understand and respond to visual context. While Android users have had access to these capabilities since March (initially on Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 devices before expanding to all Android users), the iOS rollout completes Google's cross-platform vision for Gemini's visual capabilities.
Google has indicated that additional Google ecosystem connections are planned beyond the initial four apps, as the company continues to position Gemini as an increasingly personal and proactive AI assistant.
