Google Canvas Transforms Text into Interactive AI Experiences

Google has significantly expanded the creative capabilities of its Canvas tool with a new AI-powered Create menu that transforms how users interact with their content.

The new feature, announced at Google I/O 2025, allows users to instantly convert text into multiple interactive formats including infographics, web pages, immersive quizzes, and podcast-style Audio Overviews. This functionality is now available in 45 languages, making it accessible to a global audience.

"Canvas will now let you transform that report with one tap into all kinds of new things, like a dynamic web page, an infographic, a helpful quiz, even a custom podcast in 45 languages," explained Josh Woodward, VP of Google's Labs group, during the announcement.

The Audio Overview capability, which was previously popular in NotebookLM, creates engaging podcast-style conversations about uploaded content. Users can download these audio summaries for offline listening or share them directly through the Gemini app. This feature has proven extremely popular, with users generating more than 350 years worth of Audio Overviews in just three months.

Canvas also excels at "vibe coding," allowing users to build functional web applications through natural conversation with Gemini 2.5 Pro. This capability enables anyone to create interactive apps without writing code themselves, democratizing app development for students, educators, and business users.

The new Canvas features are part of Google's broader strategy to integrate AI across its product ecosystem. The company is leveraging the success of NotebookLM, which has been used by millions of people and tens of thousands of organizations worldwide for studying, decision-making, and content creation. Canvas is accessible to all Gemini users, with Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers gaining access to the more powerful Gemini 2.5 Pro model with its million-token context window for complex projects.
