There are exactly two tiers, and here is what each one costs

Seedream 5 on Doitong ships in two tiers and only two: Lite and Pro. Lite is billed at a flat 100 credits per image, and the resolution setting does not change that number, because Lite renders at its 2K size set (default 2048x2048). Pro is billed by resolution: 338 credits at 1K, 675 credits at 2K. The 1K default size is 1024x1024. One thing worth stating plainly: there is no Seedream 4.0 or 4.5 you can generate with here. Those version names appear only as labels on work created earlier, so there is nothing to run them against. The choice in front of you is Lite at 100 versus Pro at 338 or 675, and that is the whole decision.

Five aspect ratios where the two tiers are pixel-identical

On 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2 and 2:3, Lite and Pro produce exactly the same output dimensions. Not approximately, not within rounding: the same numbers. Square is 2048x2048 on both. 4:3 is 2304x1728 on both, 3:4 is 1728x2304 on both. 3:2 is 2496x1664 on both, 2:3 is 1664x2496 on both. That covers product shots, portraits, social squares and print-adjacent crops. If you shoot in any of those five ratios, the 575 extra credits you pay for Pro 2K over Lite buy you zero additional pixels. Whatever difference you may perceive between the tiers on those ratios, it is not a difference in resolution, and it will not show up in the image dimensions. If you were paying Pro rates specifically so your files would be larger, that assumption does not hold on these five ratios.

Three ratios where Pro gives you less than Lite

Pro has an area ceiling of roughly 4.19 megapixels. Lite does not enforce that ceiling on the wide crops. The result is counterintuitive and fully measurable. At 16:9, Lite outputs 2848x1600 (4,556,800 px). Pro outputs 2720x1536 (4,177,920 px). Pro is short by 378,880 pixels, or 8.31 percent of the frame area. At 9:16 the numbers are mirrored exactly: Lite 1600x2848, Pro 1536x2720, same 378,880 pixel shortfall. At 21:9, Lite outputs 3136x1344 (4,214,784 px) against Pro's 3072x1312 (4,030,464 px), a gap of 184,320 pixels, or 4.37 percent. So on the three widest and tallest formats, the ones that come up for video thumbnails, covers, vertical frames and banners, the more expensive tier hands back a smaller image. If your pipeline upscales or crops afterwards, starting from Lite gives you more source pixels to work with, at 100 credits instead of 675.

What we are not claiming about Pro

This page compares price and output dimensions, because those are the two things that can be read off exactly and checked by anyone with an account. We are not telling you Pro looks worse. Prompt adherence, texture, typography rendering and how a tier handles reference images are subjective and we have no measurement to publish for them, so we are not going to invent one. What we can say is narrower and more useful: if Pro is buying you something, it is not pixels. On five of the eight ratios it is dimensionally identical to Lite, and on the other three it is dimensionally smaller. That reframes the decision. Instead of asking "is Pro higher resolution," which has a definite answer of no, ask whether Pro's output quality on your specific prompt justifies 338 or 675 credits against Lite's 100. Generate the same prompt on both tiers once, compare, and you will know for your own use case in about two minutes.

The same numbers in dollars

Credits are easier to reason about when you convert them. Credit packs run 30,000 for $19.99, 100,000 for $39.99 and 300,000 for $99.99, which is roughly $0.67, $0.40 and $0.33 per 1,000 credits. On the 300,000 pack, a Lite image costs $0.03 and a Pro 2K image costs $0.22, for output that is either identical or smaller depending on your aspect ratio. Pro at 1K sits at $0.11 on the same pack, and its 1024x1024 default has half the linear dimensions of Lite's 2048x2048 square, so a quarter of the pixel area. In credits the Lite-to-Pro-2K gap is 6.75x flat: 100 against 675. For context on the rest of the image lineup at that same pack: GPT Image 2 runs $0.10 at 1K, $0.17 at 2K and $0.27 at 4K (4K on the ratios that allow it, see the next section), and Nano Banana Pro is a flat $0.25 whether you ask for 1K, 2K or 4K. A decision rule you can apply today

If you are working in 16:9, 9:16 or 21:9, use Lite. You get 378,880 more pixels at 16:9 and 9:16, and 184,320 more at 21:9, for 100 credits instead of 675. There is no resolution argument for Pro on those ratios at all. If you are working in 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2 or 2:3, the tiers are dimensionally identical, so start on Lite and only move to Pro if a side by side on your own prompt shows something you actually want. Do not move to Pro by default. If 4K is what you need, the price list puts it on GPT Image 2 and Nano Banana Pro. Seedream 5 is listed in two size sets, Lite's 2K set at a flat 100 credits and Pro at 1K for 338 or 2K for 675, and the largest single dimension across all eight ratios is 3136 pixels on 21:9 Lite. Is Seedream 5 Pro worth the extra credits?

Not for resolution. On 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2 and 2:3 the two tiers output identical pixel dimensions, and on 16:9, 9:16 and 21:9 Pro outputs fewer pixels than Lite. Pro 2K costs 675 credits against Lite's 100, a 6.75x gap. If Pro is worth it for your prompts, it will be for output character, not file size. Run the same prompt on both once and judge from your own result.

Why is Pro lower resolution than Lite at 16:9?

The names 4.0 and 4.5 appear only as labels attached to images made earlier, so there is nothing to run a comparison against. The tier decision you are actually making is Lite at 100 credits versus Pro at 338 or 675.

Does Seedream 5 Lite have a 1K option?
